Day In The Life Of A Middle School Counselor

My Day to Day

A day in the life as a school counselor would consist of checking emails from key stakeholders, checking in with students regarding their academic, social-emotional, or college and career inquiries. I provide supervision during pass periods, lunch, and after school. Depending on the time of the year, I'll be working on classroom presentations, running groups, meeting with community partners, running 504/ATC/SST meetings, submitting CPS reports, or conducting Risk Assessments.

Skills & Education

Advice for getting started

To work as a school counselor, you'll need to get your bachelor's and master's degrees, and complete internship hours. Other than that, I think a lot of people overcomplicate the process. You really just need a kind heart and a desire to work with kids. If you want to work with youth and have an impact on their future, then I encourage you to look at the programs that will allow you to do that.

Here's the path I took:

  • High School

  • Bachelor's Degree

    Psychology

    San Jose State University

  • Graduate Degree

    School Counseling

    University of San Francisco
